Jeff Malecki is in his second year of doctoral work at UNLV. Hailing from Michigan, he has degrees from Central Michigan University and VanderCook College of Music, studying conducting under John Williamson and Charles Menghini. While earning those degrees, he accepted honors including stints with the Orcestra Sinfonica de Trujillo in Peru and the City of Cambridge Brass Band in England, as well as soloing on the stage of Chicago’s Orchestra Hall.

Moving to Arizona in 2003, Jeff was director of bands at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix where his bands and orchestra received many awards including 103.9’s “Giving Music the Edge” Award, as well as Valley Academy Charter School teaching grades four through eight.

As euphonist and trombonist, he has played with the Salt River Brass Band, Chandler Symphony, Tempe Symphonic Winds, Arizona Wind Symphony, and is principle euphonium in UNLV’s Wind Orchestra. He also performed a featured recital at the 2009 Southwest Regional ITEC conference in Los Angeles, playing both the west-coast premier of David Gillingham’s new “Concerto for Euphonium” and world premier performance of “Jax the Dog” by Emily R. Lawlor.

As a conductor, Jeff has conducted UNLV Community Bands, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Orchestra, as well as managing and conducting the Las Vegas Youth Wind Orchestra. Repertoire has included Façade (Walton), Overture for Winds (Mendelssohn), Scherzo (Rossini), First Construction in Metal (Cage), The Sinfonians (Williams), and The Fire of Eternal Glory (Shostakovich/Rhea). Jeff’s professional affiliations include CBDNA, MENC, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
